At a company networking lunch, a VP is chatting with Marcus, a newly hired Black marketing manager. The VP pats Marcus on the back and says, "I have to say, Marcus, you are just so articulate and well-spoken. You really carry yourself professionally." Marcus’s smile tightens, and he gives a polite but uncomfortable, "Thank you."
