Performance Paradox

During an annual calibration meeting, a female manager is being evaluated for a promotion. The leadership team agrees her metrics are outstanding, but one executive notes, "She’s incredibly sharp, but her communication style is just too aggressive and abrasive. She rubs people the wrong way." In the very next breath, a male manager with similar metrics is praised because "he’s a real go-getter who isn't afraid to ruffle feathers to get results."
